Summary:
A montage of his existence flickered before my eyes. I experienced every joy, heartbreak, triumph, and defeat. And then there was only terror .
For years, effective empath Vesper Tallinn has kept herself isolated from the rest of the world. Due to her ability to manipulate feelings, she’s the tendency to draw dangerous visitors to her. She can count the amount of people she trusts on one hand, because in her encounter, it’s completely safer to become alone. Not only that, but keeping her head about GRIT down maintains her off the radar of the Remnant Gods, effective and historic beings whose behavior is usually unpredictable at most effective.
But thanks to Corbin Troy, her law enforcement detective best friend, Vesper is pulled into an extremely disturbing murder analysis. Bodies keep arriving, and the emotions Vesper senses are terrifying and dark, oozing with cruelty and malice. Both culprit and motive remain a secret, but a very important factor is apparent: the Remnant Gods are in some way included. But are they the victims? Or the perpetrators?
Vesper finds herself caught inside a web of intrigue and magic, leading her on the search through pubs and sex clubs, crime moments and portals, as she attempts to track down a killer . . . and the strange Lord Grasp, who might contain the hint to the entire case.
Over the course of the investigation, Vesper finds herself drawn to Deimos, the most effective, enigmatic guy in the town. He’s clearly a lot more than individual and it’s apparent he’s tangled up in the case. Deimos has no curiosity about discussing it with Corbin, because in his opinion, this is a matter for the Remnant Gods. Vesper, though, can be another matter. Deimos is normally fascinated with her and appears objective on having her in his existence . . . and his bed.
Which begs the issue: Is he friend or foe?
And how much is Vesper willing to risk to find out?
Contains mature themes.
