Harkness is not a hero-but unfortunately for him, he’s been volunteered by his town to save lots of the world, and he quickly sees that modern-day sarcasm is no match for old dragons.

Harkness, a medieval peasant having a millennial’s way of thinking, is quite happy to sit back and make quips while everybody else will the hard work. His calculated laziness is usually interrupted when the gods send an ancient and horrible scourge-by-dragonfire upon his community, and he is forced (peer-pressured, really) about Dragons Suck into attempting to save his fiancee from your dragon that has kidnapped her.

When Harkness is sent by the town elder to get the one tool that is capable of getting rid of the beast, his real plan is to go off on his own and make use of his village’s money to live the high existence. This, of course, would require ditching his two companions: Karla, an aspiring troubadour whose interest makes up on her lack of adventuring abilities, and Aldric, whose kindheartedness will not replace his lack of intelligence. Harkness sees this journey as a paid holiday beneath the pretense of world-saving, nonetheless it quickly becomes significant when he realizes what’s on the line when he is forced to actually care about something-or at least, pretend to.
