The Doctor and his close friends realise that all isn’t well when Polly witnesses a murder, and both she and Ben vanish. The regulators refuse to take the matter seriously – but when Polly reappears, how come she claim not to recognise her friends? A sequence of incomprehensible events appears to center around Chameleon Trips, whose package holidays are designed to entice teenagers to international shores. Precisely how far-flung will be the horizons they offer, and why are non-e of their people coming back? Who will be the faceless ones, and what hideously deformed animals are involved in the operations being conducted at the airport terminal medical centre? The Doctor feels that there’s a connection between Chameleon Trips and the unusual behaviour of important airport terminal personnel – but in seeking to verify his theory, and save Ben and Polly, he turns into embroiled within a storyline to steal the identities of thousands of young people.
